What I Wore – The Blue Skirt

Summer EditionBlue Skirt Outfit

I have been in the midst of love affair with this skirt for approximately nine months. And not just because it is featured in one of my most liked Instagram photos. I’m not that fickle… I first fell in love while trawling Esty in Autumn last year. I wore skirts and dresses all summer but unfortunately, the majority didn’t transcend into the colder months very well. The navy-blue pencil skirt that looked great with bare legs, started to look a bit Marks and Spencer sales assistant when winter tights were added. (I can say that, I used to work there.)

I wanted a skirt I could wear in all seasons and still feel stylish. I wanted it below the knee, the ability to pair it with clothes I already owned, and I wanted to buy it second-hand. Not much to ask I thought. I hit the jackpot with this one, from an Etsy seller in Milan selling all sorts of clothing and accessories. In the item description, the seller pointed out that the skirt can be worn in both summer and winter. And she was from Milan, so I believed her. Italians know fashion, right?

Blue Skirt Outfit - Full

I want to write a post in the future showing all the ways I can wear the skirt. Having been worn almost weekly since purchased. It is one of those pieces that can be worn in all different ways – with a multitude of tops. It suits sandals, shoes, short boots, and long boots. Probably trainers too – but on someone else, it’s just not my look. I can wear it popping down to the pool on holiday or wrapped up in cashmere for Christmas lunch. (Yes, I did just mention Christmas in June.) I’m yet to style it with a dress over the top but I can see it working. The cogs are turning in my head as I type this. Or maybe the skirt over the dress…I’ll get back to you on that one.

Today I’ve styled it with an organic cotton top from Kings of Indigo, a pair of sandals that I could never decide if I wanted enough (they were quite pricey) and then ended up seeing them in the sale. Bargain. And a bag, handmade from an Etsy seller.

Do you have clothes that you wear over and over?

Do you find it’s easier if you can style them up in different ways?
