What I Wore – Oxfam Fashion

For me, the best vintage treasures are the ones that I set out to find.

I organise my wardrobe every three months and when I do this I can take stock of anything I need to add. Read about why I have a capsule wardrobe here. It might take a few tries to find exactly what I want – different shops or different days. For that reason, I don’t leave it to the last minute to start looking. Doing so will inevitably lead to panic buying!

Last winter, I imagined a slim fitting buttoned cardigan. It had to be in a breathable, natural fabric – I’m not a fan of being sweaty in any season! Thankfully Oxfam Online have a huge range of winter knits in all shapes, sizes and colours. And I found this grey cashmere cardigan from Scottish brand Johnstons of Elgin at an absolute bargain price.

Thanks to the breathable fabric, I can wear it in spring and autumn too. Summer might be pushing it a bit though! I’ve had so much wear out of it, owing to the neutral colour but also because it was on my shopping list. I thought about which clothes would serve me and didn’t just buy the first thing I saw that vaguely suited.

Another find from Oxfam Online was this red silk skirt. I am a enthusiast of below the knee and midi skirts and wanted one that was a bright colour and had something special about it. I knew as soon as I saw this, that it was perfect. It is multifunctional and can be worn with boots in winter or shoes or sandals in the summer months. The skirt is from British brand Jigsaw originally.

It is possible still to dress in your individual style when shopping secondhand fashion. Just like shopping new, there are different types of stores for every taste. You can be fabulously creative and find one off pieces that no one else will ever own or find the perfect blue jeans and white tee. You can dress up in 1950’s sun dresses or find pieces that were made last year. Knowing that you are saving the clothes from going to landfill, therefore doing a huge favour to the environment.
