Favourite Style Pieces From 2018 and Looking Ahead to 2019

Looking to the past, present and future!

2018 has been an amazing year. It was the year I launched The Green Edition! I have visited some beautiful places and met lots of lovely people, both online and in real life. So thank you for that. And for reading! 2019 looks to be exciting too.

In terms of ethical and sustainable fashion, the past year has also been amazing. The topic seems to be more popular than ever as more people become aware of the situation. Both social and environmental factors are making it so difficult for this industry to continue.

As the year comes to an end I’ve picked out the five pieces that really stood out for me this year in my wardrobe. The pieces I will continue to wear for years to come.

Wearing the blue star top with jeans.

The Blue Star Top

It’s not new but I still continue to get so much wear out of this top. It stays in my wardrobe all year long and looks just as good with shorts in summer as it does under a cardigan in winter. I’ve had to repair it slightly at the collar, it’s a frayed edge but sometimes looks a little too frayed. So it gets a trim now and then!

Black Tee Blue Jeans Style

The Black Tee

I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect tee since I was about fifteen. I finally found it from Organic Basics. It’s a brilliant combination of soft, durable, thick, stretchy but not too stretchy. It’s made of organic cotton and washes up well. I basically lived in it all summer and have continued to style it with layers all year.

Tweed Secondhand Coat worn with trainers.

The secondhand coat

A winter coat was on my list of things to buy this year. It’s so cold in the winter months that I feel better with a few different coats or I end up having to wear the same one every day! I hit the jackpot with this secondhand grey one from eBay. It was made in the UK and has a vintage feel with the bigger shoulder detail. It’s warm and goes with everything in my wardrobe. I’ve definitely got a lot of wear out of it and will continue to in years to come.

Winter outfit consisting of black turtle neck, jeans, coat and gold boots.

The turtle neck

This is a new piece that I bought a few weeks ago but I love it already. It is the thinnest merino wool sweater I’ve ever seen and it has raw edges. I’ve been wearing it underneath all my usual clothes and can layer even better without the bulk. And because it’s breathable, it doesn’t get sweaty and smelly.

A wrap dress worn open with jeans.

The Wrap Dress

Another secondhand eBay piece. I wear this around once a fortnight and the great thing is that it works for all times of the year. It looks great with sandals in the summer heat and layered up when it gets colder. I also like to wear it open with something underneath. It’s proved to be really versatile and stays in my wardrobe all year.

2019 Style Resolutions

Buy Less. I’m not putting any kind of restriction on buying but I want to continue focusing on buying the right things for me. Pieces that will get the most wear, that I can pair with the most in my wardrobe. Following on from this, I want to continue wearing what i already own. There are so many new trends popping up all the time, I think its possible to nod to them using clothes we already have in our wardrobes. Often they just need a fresh look!

Buy Vintage and secondhand. I’m still relatively new to the world of vintage shopping. I didn’t go thrifting when I was at school or university like so many others have done. I’ve probably made up for it the past few years though! I want to continue to find the perfect vintage pieces that I can wear all the time.

Support Ethical Brands. I’m constantly surprised by the amazing offerings from ethical and sustainable brands. I find that the makers who are passionate about sustainability are also passionate about making a good product.
