Autumn Capsule Wardrobe – The Green Edit

Bring out the tweed! Autumn Capsule Wardrobe

The weather starts to turn chillier, the leaves transform into rusty brown and golden tones. Autumn is well and truly here. I’ve held onto the warm weather and sunshine as long as possible but now I’m starting to reach for the cosier knitted pieces in my wardrobe. It’s time to dig out the boots and coats and warmer layering clothes. Bring on the autumn capsule wardrobe!

I’ve cleared everything out. Donated anything that I didn’t wear over the summer, you can check my summer capsule revisit here. I have packed away the clothes I definitely won’t be wearing in the next three months. And the best bit, I’ve picked out all my warmer clothes! Capsule wardrobes need to be weather appropriate which is the main reason that I change mine over four times per year. The weather in northern Europe changes up a lot over the year!

New Pieces!

I’ve bought six new pieces for the season ahead. First up is an oversized brown tweed blazer. I picked this up second hand in a vintage shop in Amsterdam. I don’t usually go for brown so this is a change up for me but I’ve really enjoyed wearing it so far.

The second is a long tweed coat. I’m so pleased with this one. I found it on eBay over the summer. When it was sweltering hot in Amsterdam, I was scouring the internet for a tweed wool coat! The cut is gorgeous, I’m not sure of the brand but it was made in England.

Next up is a beautiful black silk blouse. It’s second hand from Vestaire Collective although came with the tags still on. It’s the first time I’ve ever bought anything from Vestaire. I always thought they only sold second-hand luxury goods like Chanel bags etc. However, they have a good selection of clothes, bags, and accessories from more middle range brands too.

The fourth piece is a blue cashmere cardigan that I picked up from eBay over the summer. It’s a bit more cropped than I first realised. I rechecked the listing and it’s described as cropped, so it’s my own fault! However, I’ve worn it quite a few times already. It goes well with higher waisted jeans and skirts.

I bought the tweed skirt in a vintage shop in Edinburgh at the start of the summer. Where better to buy tweed than in Scotland? It doesn’t have any label, so I wondered if it was maybe handmade. It’s going to be a staple in my wardrobe for years to come.

And finally, are the gold boots. Another eBay find. When I’m looking on eBay, I always tick the ‘used’ tab at the left. It filters out all the dodge looking sellers and I’m really only interested in buying second-hand or vintage from there. The woman who sold the boots had never worn them. She had bought a pair in black at the same time and ended up wearing the black pair every time instead of the gold!

Next up are skirts. I felt like I had too many options in my summer capsule, so I’ve only picked three plus the new tweed one. These have all been in my wardrobe for a few seasons and were found second-hand in Oxfam and Etsy.

The black tee is from Organic Basics it’s a good one to layer up with. The blouses and Breton were all in my summer capsule too. They are good for layering and wearing when the weather isn’t too cold. I can wear them out with a thicker coat over the top. The shoes are a year or two old now.

I have five pairs of jeans in this capsule. One pair is from Mud Jeans, a great sustainable denim brand. I chopped off the bottom two inches because the jeans are made for tall Dutch people! Two of the Levi’s are vintage that I picked up in a market here in Amsterdam. Both pairs of trainers are from Veja. I originally bought the darker pair for the gym but ended up wearing them everywhere over the summer. So, they’ve been included in the capsule this time!

Knitwear, an essential in Europe in the autumn. I have a few old fast fashion jumpers, some bought second-hand and one bought from Armed Angels. They are natural fibres because I find acrylic and polyester knitwear hard to wear.

The denim dress is an old fast-fashion piece that I’ve had for years. It’s getting a bit thin in places but is in the capsule for this season at least. I bought the wrap dress from eBay and the black silk dress from Oxfam second-hand earlier in the year.

Coats and boots! A few years ago, I started buying only quality coats, so I’ve built up a nice collection now. I wear them all the time as it’s impossible to leave the house without a coat when the temperature starts to drop! The green trench coat is an old Zara piece. I’ve asked them who made it and didn’t really get much of an answer. I continue to wear it because it’s beautiful, I love the blue and white striped lining. Although I refuse to buy anything new from them nowadays.
