Winter Capsule Wardrobe – The Green Edit

Cosy knits, coats and boots.

It’s super cold in the north at the moment. We’ve had snow and rain and frosty mornings. The days are short and the nights are long and dark. The thought of actually getting dressed to go out can be difficult because it takes so long to put all the layers on! It means cosy knits, warm coats, scarves, hats and gloves. Long boots, short boots – it doesn’t matter as long as everything is covered. Bring on the winter capsule wardrobe!

I’ve cleared everything out. Donated anything that I didn’t wear over the autumn, you can check my last capsule wardrobe revisit here. I have packed away the clothes I definitely won’t be wearing in the next three months. And the best bit, I’ve picked out all my warmest clothes!

Coats and Shoes

These coats are all the same as my autumn capsule. I usually invest in a new coat as the weather starts to get cooler so by the time winter rolls around I’m already set. A month or so ago, I donated a pair of my boots, I really loved them but they had started to look tatty. Because they were cheaply made, it was nothing that could be repaired and I wasn’t reaching for them anymore. They were replaced with the brown boots above. They were paid for by the Christmas money I received from my family which makes them a little bit more special, I think.

Everything Knitted

I’ve been trying to buy only quality knits for a year or two. It can be depressing to take jumpers out of storage and they look bobbly and threadbare, after only wearing them for one winter. Last year I bought quite a few secondhand cashmere jumpers, most of which are still going strong. This year I wanted to vary it a bit more so bought the beige wool one above. This one has been on repeat ever since I bought it. It is from Arket and I bought it because it is made of a high percentage of recycled wool.

The beige cardigan is also a new purchase and I’ve worn it to death already. It’s made of a high percentage of recycled cotton and is from Reformation. I’m not sure how well it will last though, I’ve found this with cotton knits before. They don’t always wear as good as wool. I will keep you posted though! The final new piece in this section is the black polo neck. It’s made from 100% merino wool and I bought it from Cos. I was looking for a polo neck for layering for awhile and finally came across this one which is perfect. It is the thinnest polo neck I have ever come across and still keeps the heat in. It lies completely flat under clothes because it has a raw cut finish with no seam to look bunched under clothes.

Dresses

These are the dresses I’m wearing this winter. The black one has been in my wardrobe for a year or so and was an Oxfam find. The middle dress is from People Tree, I love how long it is and the busy pattern. It should work well in all the seasons depending on how it’s styled. The third dress has also been in my wardrobe for awhile and I found it on ebay.

Tops, trousers and skirts

I added a couple of new (to me) secondhand bottoms this season that I found. The first is a pair of cropped blue jeans that I found in Oxfam and the second is a pair of cropped blue culottes that I picked up from eBay. Both of which have been worn in the past month, but to be honest I think I will prefer to wear them on the warmer days!

I decided to take photo’s for this post the day before I moved house. In hindsight this probably wasn’t a good idea. These are the clothes that I was wearing that I didn’t really leave time to take off and add to the rail!
