Sustainable Leggings From Europe

10 Sustainable Brands You Can Find In Europe!

Lounging in my leggings like Victoria BeckhamLeggings are a staple in my wardrobe. I wear them for exercise – pilates, yoga, jogging and the gym. Also for hiking, walking the dogs and chilling out at home. Furthermore, I need them to be easy to throw on, simple to wash and dry, and I want to know they look good.

Recently I’ve only been interested in sustainable and ethical leggings. By this I mean they should be made from recycled or organic fibres and made by people who are paid a living wage. There is no excuse for brands to be using environmentally damaging fabrics to produce leggings. Although many of the fabrics used in this list are natural, lycra and elastane are used to create a fabric that stretches. This means the leggings are going to last longer and remain efficient. To keep our waters and oceans free from plastic pollution, try washing your leggings in a guppy bag. This will collect any microplastics from the washing.

Although there are beautifully sustainable leggings being produced all over the world I have focused in Europe this time and collated a list of my European favourites.

10 Pairs Of Sustainable Leggings

Sustainable Leggings Organic BasicsOrganic Basics

The SilverTech Active leggings are made from 96% recycled nylon, 4% elastane and are treated with polygiene odour control technology which keeps them fresh for longer. The point being they can go longer without washing. It’s difficult to see from the images but they have a ribbed detail on the outsides of the legs. Available in two colours, in sizes XS to XXL and made in Portugal.

Sustainable Leggings People Tree

People Tree

The yoga leggings are made from 95% organic cotton and 5% elastane. They are certified fair trade and made by a social enterprise in India which was initially up by Franciscan nuns, providing training and employment for deaf, mute and economically disadvantaged women. The leggings are available in sizes 8 through to size 16.

Sustainable Leggings Thought Clothing

Thought

The Printed Bamboo Leggings from Thought are made from 67% viscose derived from bamboo, 28% organic cotton and 5% spandex jersey. Available in sizes 8 to 18, these leggings would be perfect for a yoga class or for chilling out afterwards.

Sustainable Leggings Planet Warrior

Planet Warrior

These recycled plastic leggings from Planet Warrior are bright and fun, who said sustainable had to be boring?! High waisted with a tropical print and made from 84% recycled plastic and 16% spandex. A small British brand, Planet Warrior, is trying to help combat plastic waste and have eco-friendly and recyclable packaging. The leggings are available in a small, medium or large.

Sustainable Leggings Asquith Asquith

The Asquith bamboo and organic cotton leggings are made from 60% bamboo, 30% organic cotton and 10% elastane. I have tried a few bamboo pieces from Asquith, including a sports bra and top. They are super soft and breathable. These high waisted leggings are available in five different colours in sizes XS to XXL.

Leggings Sea SaltSeasalt

These organic cotton leggings from Seasalt are available in sizes between a UK 6 and 26, which is the most inclusive range of sizes I could find for sustainable leggings. They also do a petite length for shorter people wishing to avoid the Nora Batty look!

Leggings

Girlfriend Collective

If you want warm leggings for winter then try Girlfriend Collective. They are thicker fabric than any others I’ve tried. I’ve had a pair for over four years and they are still going strong, it must be the 79% recycled polyester in their composition! I wear them for workouts and hikes in the woods. They also do a cycling short that is basically the same design as the leggings but shorter.

Sustainable Leggings Lando Studio Lando Studio

These organic cotton leggings from Turkish brand Lando Studio are so pretty. I love the detail at the bottom of the legs. Currently available in three colours and three sizes.

Yoga Matters

Designed and made in England from 65% regenerated nylon and 35% nylon.

Bamboo Leggings

Bamboo Clothing

Not only are the leggings from Bamboo Clothing environmentally sound and made ethically, but they also look fantastic. With lots of different colours and designs, there’s something to suit everyone. These are 7/8 supportive superhero leggings and are available in different colours.
