Will You Be Queueing Up For New Clothes Post Pandemic?

Erm no.
While many countries were still locked down, Germany started to open many of its shops again a couple of weeks ago. I took a trip into town – to buy a face mask no less. And I drove past popular clothing shops with queues. Cos and Adidas both had lines of masked fans outside. I mean, I want to get back to normal as much as the next person, but who can be arsed standing in a queue for Cos?!

The BBC reported big sales are expectedly hitting the UK as soon as the clothing stores open again. Flashback to crazy images of boxing day sales. Everybody loves a bargain, right?! I sometimes wonder if people enjoyed standing in line for the supermarket for the past few months.

As I’ve been spending more time at home, I know the things I’ve missed.

Shopping wasn’t one of them. And sale shopping for the sake of something to do wasn’t one of them! Instead, I missed connecting with people, going out for coffee, exploring where we live. How many of us missed buying lots of things we don’t need or will never wear?

Primark and other fashion retailers who don’t have an online space will no doubt be chomping at the bit to open their doors. Especially in the UK where the sales of clothing and fast fashion are higher than in Europe. With prices at crazy lows – they slash the cost further down the chain, i.e. they don’t pay a living wage – it is hard to imagine how much cheaper they can sell their wares. And how much of their inventory will end up in the landfill?

So in case, you were wondering – I’ve been at home while the shops have started to open because nothing gives me more anxiety than post lockdown sales and buying piles of clothes that I’ll never wear.
