Summer In Linen

Summer is here.

I sit at home and soak up the sunshine. I have no plans to leave the city, not too far anyway. I buy watermelons and strawberries and eat them outside while admiring the nature around me. I never seem to drink enough water in the day and too many sweet cocktails at night.

I wear linen clothes and revel in the slightly rumpled look that I seem to be able to get away with only in the summer heat. Beachy hair and smudged lipstick and tanned skin even though I slather on SPF every day. Laying out and reading old paperback books with idleness that still tires me out.

Past summer seasons surface in memories with sweet melancholy.

I wear bikini’s in the garden from years gone by. Old favourites that I’ve not seen since the last summer sunshine. Those favourite shorts that get worn every day for such a short period of time. To be replaced with worn-in jeans as soon as the autumn sets in.

The morning dog walk is even more joyful with the overflowing rose bushes in every garden. The air is sweet. Children run and play. We dander along at a slower pace, taking everything in while still in a hazy daydream.

I wear a sun hat that has seen better days but protects as it should.

I feel warm and passionate for the entire season.

Summer is love.
