Walter Cronkite: One of a Kind
He will be missed. Walter Cronkite, CBS Newsman, died today at the age of ninty-two; 1916-2009. He had the reputation of being among the few truly honest newsmen. He was anchor of the CBS evening news from1962-1981.
Walter Cronkite died of Cerebral Vascular Disease, at home, surrounded by his family. He was just a regular guy who did his best to be an honest and fair newsman. He was a big adlibber, who had the knowledge to talk on any subject.
Mr. Cronkite loved racing and sailing. He was lovingly referred to as 'Uncle Walter' by staff and friends, but was known as all news, all the time. He was a reporter first, then an anchor.
Mr. Cronkite was replaced by Dan Rather when he retired in 1982. Walter Cronkite did the first 30 minute evening news, quickly followed by the other Networks.
We will all remember Walter Cronkite fondly.
