A Tree of Many Seasons

Stuart Park Broken Hill trees

Some trees are old ...

While wandering around Stuart Park Reserve, Broken Hill, my attention was captured by this beautiful old tree. What stories it could tell.

Of interest too, is a plaque next to the tree which was unveiled in 1988 on the occasion of the re-enactment of the Historic Afghan Cameleers Trek, and in recognition of the outstanding contribution by the Afghan Community to the development of inland Australia.

In 1884 a rich vein of silver was discovered at Broken Hill. Mining commenced and more rich veins of silver were discovered. Broken Hill became known as the Silver City and its population exploded.

The Line of Lode in Broken Hill is the richest deposit of silver, lead and zinc in the world.

As a result of all its wealth Broken Hill boasts many beautiful buildings which were built in the late 19th century.
