Yankie mammoths?
New DNA research suggests that the last wolly mammoths on earth were American, not Russian...new cold war, anyone?
A team of researchers have analysed the ancient DNA of 160 mammoths and found that US mammoths replaced Asian mammoths at the end of the Pleistocene era - around 10000 years ago.
This means yankee mammoths would have been the last team standing.
Further bad news for the Russians - it seems that perhaps the yankee mammoths actually outcompeted their mammoths and caused their extinction....the researchers say that Asian mammoths disappeared at a time that coincides with the arrival of team USA mammoth...
The Russian press seems so far to have ignored this research!
