Polar bears on thin ice

polar bears
The recent decision in the US to list polar bears as threatened was based primarily on loss of habitat due to climate change..no ice, no bears.
But, inevitably, industries are whining about the decision. Part of the bill includes a statement that all business propositions in Alaska (but no other state) must undergo reviews of their GHG emissions.
Alaskan industries, including the petroleum institute and iron and steel instutute, have filed a law suit to get the wording changed.
One can only hope the wording is changed, to include a review of ALL business propositions in ALL US states....do the government think that climate change in Alaska is a result only of GHG emissions in Alaska.
Prior to this law suit, vice-presedential candidate Sarah Palin (yes, she with pregnant daughter) also sued the government, saying that listing the polar bear will harm oil and gas exploration in Alaska.
The Center for Biological Diversity continues to petition to get the listing upgraded from 'threatened' to 'endangered'.

Interesting post, I like the pic. The wording should be changed to include all states so that everyone realises they are responsible for climate change, not just those who are affected by it. Good old Palin, she's fighting for the right causes isn't she?
