Moreton Bay Fig Trees, Norfolk Island

April 12th 2011 00:52
...and some gigantic trees have a presence...

Norfolk Island is in the South Pacific Ocean, located east of Sydney and NW of Auckland.

We found this fascinating island a great location for a laid-back holiday. Its convict and settlement history is absorbing, its coastline spectacular and its flora and fauna interesting.

One must-visit, impressive sight on the island is the row of gigantic Moreton Bay Fig Trees on New Farm Road, near Rocky Point Reserve.

The large, buttress roots give the trees an eerie look, but they provide the trees with stability and nutrition.
