... the Lost City...

Nearing the end of the Kings Canyon walk a plateau of rocky domes, reminiscent of the Bungle Bungles, is encountered. These weathered, sandstone domes are beehive like in structure and they have become known as The Lost City.

... walking the rim ...

We woke up full of anticipation about what we would experience as we walked the rim of Kings Canyon, in the George Gill Range, Watarrka National Park, Central Australia.
The caravan park is about 6 kilometres from the start of the walk.

The Beginning of the Kings Canyon Walk

The walk we chose was the Kings Canyon Walk. The sign told us it was 5.5 kms long and we would need to allow 3.5 hours return.
The first part of the walk is quite steep but we had been warned and told the rest of the walk was not difficult. Immediately the scenery convinced us the reward was going to be worth the effort.

... when every step is worth the effort ...

After watching the first rays of the sun light up the domes of Kata Tjuta/Mount Olga we travelled to the car park, near the foot of the domes, at the beginning of The Valley of The Winds Walk. This walk wends its way, for 7.4 kilometres, through some of the Kata Tjuta/Mount Olga's spectacular scenery

... magnificent domes ...

Kata Tjuta/Mount Olga is a cluster of over 30 ancient, rock domes. They are about 32 kilometres west of Uluru/Ayers Rock, 53 kilometres by road. Mt Olga, the tallest peak, rises 546 metres, which makes it about 200 metres higher than Uluru/Ayres Rock. Like Uluru/Ayers Rock, Kata Tjuta/Mount Olga has most of its mass below ground level and extends about 6 kilometres into the earth
