Kings Canyon, Watarrka National Park - Central Australia

...deep in the red centre ...
We travelled about 300 kilometres from Uluru/Ayers Rock to the caravan park next to George Gill Range in Watarrka National Park. The purpose of our visit to this place was to walk the rim of and admire Kings Canyon, in George Gill Range.
The first evening we were there we walked to the lookout to view the sunset over the Ranges.
Other travellers at the caravan park warned us to keep the annex firmly zipped and not to leave food or scraps outside our caravan. Dingoes are regular visitors and are professionals at thieving from careless campers. Each night we were at the camp we heard dingoes howling in the distance. We heard them sniffing around our van and barking as they moved around the area. When walking around the park at night, it was common to see them disappearing into the night.
This was our first visit to Kings Canyon. Friends had told us the walk around the rim was spectacular. We went to bed that night excited and with a sense of anticipation as we considered what the next day held in store for us.
