more US shenanigans for Endangered Species
On a similar thread to this morning's post...it seems that George Bush intends to screw the US Endgangered Species Act before he's out of his white house.
The Centre for Biological Diversity report that the Bush administration are seeking to change the wording of the Endangered Species Act to include a column which includes information on 'where found'.
While this might not sound too bad, and indeed the crafty politicians are glossy over it as a mere 'format change', in fact it will significantly alter the geographic area under which a species is classed as protected.
This change means, that for species which are currently restricted to a small part of their former range, their protection over their entire historic range will be lost. For some species which currently only occur in zoo's - that zoo will be the only area in which they are protected...
