Hippeastrum and Amaryllis - pause for a moment and be uplifted
October 28th 2010 08:21
Hippeastrum and Amaryllis are similar plants with the same attributes. They are both members of the Amaryllidaceae family.
They are both popular, eyecatching indoor plants and can be used as a cut flower. They are easy to grow and can be grown outside in temperate regions.
We call this hippeastrum 'Old Red', but that is not its proper name. It holds special memories for me because my Mother gave us a bulb about 30 years ago, and she had grown it for many years before that.
